Washington Mortgage

Washington - Foreclosure Prevention to Be Aided by US Government?
WASHINGTON - With concern building over troubles in the mortgage industry, The Center for American Progress said the government should consider grants to expand mortgage aid and foreclosure prevention programs for families falling behind on their monthly payments. Up to 2.2 million families around the U.S. could lose their homes to foreclosure in the coming years,

The report also highlighted homeowners' assistance programs in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Minneapolis and Brooklyn, New York, as models of ways to aid people in danger of losing their homes. The report said the federal government should provide a $25 million grant to expand these kinds of programs in parts of the country dealing with high foreclosure rates.[AP]

Monroe, NY - Bagel Boys in Suffern has purchased Monroe Bagels & Deli in the Monroe Shopping Center on Route 17M.

Brothers Mark and Eric Fried opened other Bagel Boys 22 years ago. The Frieds will make some changes to the Monroe location, including a complete renovation and tapping bakery recipes from the late Benny Pakula of the famous Pakula's Bakery in the Bronx and Spring Valley.

The hours will change, too. They will close at 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on Sundays. The store will be closed for renovations from March 19-22.

The kosher-style shop is gearing up for Passover with a full menu featuring flourless cakes from Carousel Cakes in Nanuet. It plans to employ 15-20 people; some employees from the Hausmans' shop have stayed. As for the move to Monroe, like bagels and cream cheese, Marc Fried says it's a perfect match.
